DIY CAT ART - Made Easy
Susie E Caron
Do you want an quick, easy, elegant art project to hang on your wall or give as a gift? This cat art may be just what you want.
I found this free use photo online and it gave me an idea for a different art project for you.
Materials you will need: computer, printer, scissors, paper, colored paper or wallpaper type paper, Elmer's glue, pen and a frame.
I've mapped out the steps to complete this project below with photos.
Next print out copies of the cat in a variety of sizes: 8 x 10, 5 x 7, 4 x 6, and 3 x 5 or even smaller. You will be tracing these and cutting them out so best to not make them too small.
Next cut them out, next to but not on their outlines. This allows you to better trace them later.
Next you'll want to arrange them on a piece of paper, in a pattern pleasing to you. This is how I played with arranging them.
Step 7. After you've traced & cut out all the cats you plan to use, it's time to arrange them again dry onto a colored paper for the background. (You're pattern may change.)
This photo shows how I changed my mind after cutting out the wallpaper I wanted to use. I even decided to put the tip of one cat's tail slightly off the paper. This helps enhance the feeling of movement. You can change your mind too anytime. That's the process of doing art!
Now take a tiny paint brush and a small dab of Elmer's or similar glue on a paper plate. Paint the backs of each cat with thin application of glue. Make certain to get glue on the tiny tail, feet and ear places so they won't curl.
When you're satisfied with the gluing, place them on the background paper.
TIP: Make certain you are happy with your arrangement before you glue! Also start with the largest figure, OR the one in the background then build toward the front.
When your art has completely dried, you may sign it, or leave it and frame it to hang on your wall, or to give as a gift.
Here is a photo of mine, but not under glass yet to prevent light glare in this photo. (I'm an artist but not a good photographer and I wanted you to have an idea how I might frame this art piece.)
What do you think about this or my other DIY FREEBIE art projects? Let me know.
Hugs & Blessings,
Welcome to Freebie Friday and this week’s art project:
DIY Elegant Silhouette Art
Susie E Caron
Silhouettes provide an easy and elegant way to do elegant art for anyone.
Get your kids and your elderly parents involved. Throw an art party and do it together. Even doing it all by yourself can result in wall art for you and gifts for your family and friends. (Check out my art blog for more about this.)
Where do I get a good silhouette subject?
For your silhouette subject the world is full of ideas. Do you want cartoons for children? Select something from coloring books. Would you like an animal or pet art? Use your own photos, those of a friend or out of a magazine. If you want silhouettes of your kids, put them in a bright light and trace their outlines onto paper taped to a wall. There is no limit to what you can find.
What to do for a background?
For your background there are no rules. Backgrounds can be white with silhouettes in color or in black. Backgrounds can also be black or any color you like. Use a color you like and another for the silhouette. The only rule is to have fun.
How to put it together?
If you want ideas, just download the 3 png's below. Then print out what you want to use. Cut out the silhouette and apply to any background. Frame and hang up or give as a great gift. That’s it!
One more thing.
When you finish, I’d love to see your creations, so take a photo and share in comments on my Facebook page on Tuesday or Thursday’s threads. https://www.facebook.com/SusieECaron.Twee/
I can’t wait to see your creations.
Hugs and Blessings,
